Art at Hillbrook
Art at Hillbrook aims to engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. Children learn to think critically and develop a deeper understanding of art and design.
In Key Stage One children experiment with a range of art materials to design and make artwork. Drawing, painting and sculpture are explored to share ideas, experiences and extend children’s imaginations. Children learn to develop a wide range of art techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. The practices of artists are investigated and children learn to make links to their own work.
In Key Stage Two children are taught to develop their techniques, obtaining greater control of art materials with creativity and experimentation. Children create sketch books to record their observations and revisit ideas. Mastery of art techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking are developed and improved. Children continue to consider the work of artists, architects and designers in history and use this knowledge to inform their own work.
