Anti-Bullying Week
This year for Anti-Bullying week, we had a very special visitor to kick start our learning. Ben Smith ran 401 marathons over 401 days to raise funds and awareness for anti-bullying charities. Leading up to his visit, we learnt all about his story and reasons behind the challenge. Ben suffered horrific homophobic bullying when he was at school, which affected his life until one day he decided to do something about it and took up running. His work has inspired many other people to support the cause and even earned him a ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ award.
Feeling inspired by Ben’s visit, we then learnt all about the different types of bullying and what we can do as children and a school to help prevent it.
KS1 focused their learning around the types of bullying and how to be a good friend. They learnt through stories, circle time, letters, discussions and drama. Children had a wonderful time and have built on their knowledge from last year.
KS2 invited their parents in to join them for a workshop all about how to tackle bullying and how Hillbrook deals with bullying issues in school. We had lots of positive feedback about our workshops and really appreciate the support from our families!
Finally, our mufti-day was all about raising money and awareness for Children in need and Kidscape, a charity that supports children who are victims of bullying. It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved! We raised £233!
