On Thursday 10th March, Hillbrook celebrated its first “Values Day”. Throughout the day, children across all Key Stages looked at different aspects such as law, democracy, individual liberty and respect. Local MPs and councillors visited classes where they were able to delve into democracy and hold a “House of Commons” style debate, as well as ask questions to find out more about politics. Children looked at different laws and how they are decided and also learnt why we have laws and how important they are. Across Hillbrook school, we discussed the value of respect and how we celebrate our differences within our community. By the end of the day, the children had explored lots of different aspects of values and gained a better understanding of the legal and democratic system within the UK. It also highlighted the great work that Hillbrook does daily to promote positive values.
